What is inlcuded in Academic Coaching through Beyond the Books:

Academic Coaching/Tutoring

Helping students master their coursework—with confidence and clarity

I work with students across a range of subjects, focusing not only on content but also on the skills that make learning more effective and lasting. Whether they’re struggling with math, reading comprehension, or essay writing, we take a step-by-step approach to break down challenges and build understanding. My coaching style is encouraging, patient, and adapted to each student’s unique learning style.

Includes support with:

  • Core subject instruction (math, language arts, science, etc.)

  • Homework support and assignment breakdown

  • Test preparation and study planning

  • Reading strategies and writing skills

Executive Function & Study Skills

Turning overwhelmed students into organized learners

Many students are bright and capable but struggle with the “how” of school. Executive functioning challenges—like planning, focusing, or remembering assignments—can hold them back. I help students build real-world academic habits that reduce stress and lead to success.

Focus areas include:

  • Organization and time management

  • Task initiation and follow-through

  • Prioritizing and breaking down assignments

  • Creating sustainable routines and systems

  • Goal setting and self-monitoring

Social-Emotional Support

Supporting the learner behind the learning

School pressures can take a toll on mental and emotional health. I provide a safe, supportive space where students can express frustrations, learn emotional regulation, and rebuild confidence. While I don’t provide therapy, I coach with a strong awareness of student well-being.

Support may include:

  • Tools for managing school-related anxiety and stress

  • Building self-advocacy and self-awareness

  • Cultivating a growth mindset

  • Encouraging healthy screen and sleep habits

  • Empowering students to reflect and self-correct

What additional services and resources can help your student:

Parent Partnership

Because progress works best when we're a team

You know your child better than anyone. That’s why I collaborate with parents to ensure we’re aligned in our goals and strategies. I provide consistent updates, clear communication, and a respectful partnership rooted in trust.

This includes:

  • Optional monthly or quarterly parent check-ins

  • Weekly progress summaries and actionable feedback

  • Guidance for supporting your student at home

  • Communication with teachers, counselors, therapists, and other caregivers.

Study Hall Membership

Flexibility and Support

Study Hall is a drop-in support space, open Monday through Thursday, 6:30–7:30 pm CST. Students can join whenever they need it; there's no set schedule and no pressure to attend every night. It's simply a reliable, supported hour where they can get homework help, work through tricky material, or just have a quiet, focused space to get things done, with me right there if they need me.

How is Study Hall different than Academic Coaching?

Academic coaching is one-on-one with a student, whereas the Study Hall membership is a small group. The coaching and tutoring support is very similar, but in smaller increments to allow space for all students to ask their questions. Students have the ability to stay in the main classroom and learn from the questions I am answering or jump into a breakout room where they can raise their hand as they need more support. The group is limited to high school students only, and enrollment is capped at 10 students.
